The accessible unisex toilet facility is part of a new cycling rest stop close to the Schlei waterfront and Schleswig's town centre. It offers locals, day visitors and cyclists a convenient place to take a break. Additional amenities, including an e-bike charging station, bicycle parking and a planned picnic area, complement the rest stop.
A second life put to good use! Rather than purchasing an entirely new toilet facility, the town of Schleswig opted to reuse an existing HERING installation. To prepare it for its new location, HERING Sanikonzept thoroughly cleaned and repainted both the toilet cubicle and the technical room, replaced the pipework and upgraded the electrical installations. Reusing the existing facility helped conserve resources and reduce costs compared to purchasing a new one. Rooftop photovoltaic panels and an artistically designed façade complete the concept.
We think it's a great example of how well-designed infrastructure can continue to deliver value in its second life. Here's to many more successful years for our toilet facility in the Viking town of Schleswig!
